Sawmilling Site Layout
There are a few requirements for operating the portable sawmill at your location. The area must be easily accessible to the tow vehicle and sawmill. The mill is 26' long and 5' wide. A relatively level 20' x 50' area is normally sufficient. The surface should be dry and firm enough to support the sawmill and truck.
Logs should be lined up parallel to the proposed sawmill location with the log centers lined up with each other. They should be clean with any branches cut as closely as possible to the trunk.
Having a friend or two around on milling day is a good idea. Green lumber can be very heavy and getting it stacked and stickered quickly will help avoid decay and degradation of your freshly sawn lumber.
